One Room Challenge Week 2 - Fall 2020 - Guest Bedroom Makeover

Guest Bedroom Makeover

Priming, Painting, Staining, and Fabric for Our Guest Bedroom Makeover

Week two has brought us to the beginning of painting and transforming this once drab gray boy’s bedroom into an updated, charming guest bedroom sanctuary. Most of the sourcing of items for the space has been completed, with many already received and awaiting installation in the garage.

The existing wood floors have a cherry finish which will be a little challenging to complete within six weeks because our wood floor refinisher is booked out. The refinishing has been scheduled for the week of November 1, which puts us right down to crunch time for furniture assembly and installation by the time the process is complete and the floors are cured. However, the Minwax Jacobean wood stain will make a world of difference in this room when it is all completed and will also flow with the newly refinished wood floors in the hallway off of the bedroom in the same stain. I have faith it will all come together in time.

Meanwhile, back to the painting. The walls have been primed, and the rooms' doors, including the closet doors, have all been primed. The trim molding and doors will get a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace in a semi-gloss finish. Chantilly Lace is a clean white without warm or cool undertones providing a fresh, new, and clean look. The wall color will be a warm and inviting Benjamin Moore AF-200 Lingerie in an eggshell finish. Lingerie will serve as a soft relaxing backdrop providing harmonious color for the furnishings and accessories in the room.

Bench Seat Fabric

View the video reveal of the bench seat cushion fabric swatches.

The bench seat fabric has arrived, as seen in the big reveal. This fabric inspired the whole room color palette from Carole Fabrics. The existing bench seat cushion, which needs to be modified to fit properly, has been brought to the upholsterer. The cushion needs to have a few more inches onto the depth of the existing cushion because it was never a custom cushion, and it did not fit the space properly. This saves us a little money on purchasing a new question for The window seat.

A Glitch In the Fabric for the Window Treatments

Unfortunately, the fabric for the window treatments has been discontinued, which has now thrown a wrench into the whole plan. Loving this window treatment fabric is hard to get past, and finding a replacement for our guest room makeover has been a little challenging. The ivory linen background and the apple-green outline of this Botanic fern pattern is the charm needed in this room. This seems to be the only glitch in the project at the moment. Most of the room's makeover items have arrived and are being installed in the garage and waiting for assembly. The apple green and Ivory area rug will impact the room with its high and low wool sculptured design. From the floor, apple green table lamps with white linen shades are the exact pieces that will begin to bring the green color from the floor up onto the mid-level space of the room. The intent to bring the same green color up onto the walls will come through a DIY project. Still being sources are photographs of botanical prints, flowers, and birds to add a calming natural effect and complete the sanctuary feel for all guests to enjoy the room feel.

It seems like an additional project is happening simultaneously with my first one-room challenge in the spring of 2020. The same goes for this guest bedroom makeover. I am also working on connecting the Jack and Jill bathroom and another adjoining bedroom. Coordinating these projects at the same time really has not been difficult. The bathroom got plumbing yesterday. The plan is to focus on the second bedroom painting for the carpet to be installed on Tuesday of this coming week. With all the progress, I feel confident that the charming guest bedroom sanctuary ORC project will fall right into place with the completion deadline.
