One Room Challenge Fall 2020 Week 1 - Guest Bedroom Makeover

One Room Challenge Guest Bedroom Makeover

A Kick-Off Week For Our Guest Bedroom Makeover

I’m excited to participate in the Better Homes and Gardens One Room Challenge for Fall 2020. This past spring was my first time participating in this fun and interesting event. Renovating a pink bathroom into a charming mudroom and guest bathroom was so much fun.

The One Room Challenge was the brainchild of owner and creator Linda Weinstein. Linda’s role as director of the ORC has enthusiastically facilitated the transformation of hundreds of spaces across the interior design-related online community. Better Homes & Gardens is the official media sponsor of the ORC. Thank you, Linda, I am once again excited to be a guest participant in the Fall 2020 ORC.

This fall’s challenge will transform a blue boy’s bedroom into a charming, enchanting guest bedroom sanctuary. We will mix a traditional flair with new, upbeat, colorful furnishings and accessories during this guest bedroom makeover. Although this is not in my own home this time, and at the request of my almost empty-nester clients, they are excited to have this space completely transformed into a lovely and comfortable space for guests to enjoy.

The Interior Design Plan

The plan has begun with a plan that the cherry finish hardwood floor would be refinished to continue the Jacobean stain finish from the foyer stairway and upstairs hallway. This will provide an even flow and eliminate two different stain finishes on the floor. The wall color will be Benjamin Moore’s Affinity Lingerie, a sophisticated and harmonious backdrop emitting warmth and skin tones to play off the white bedding with the same color ribbon border.

The accent color of apple green is where the new and upbeat style will come in for a pop. Green stemmed table lamps and a whimsical floral pattern fabric for the new built-in bench seat cushion will liven up this space. The window treatment side panels with be a botanical toile with an ivory background and green pattern.

Shades of Gray

Adding shades of gray to balance out the gray linen nailhead camelback headboard will be achieved with the four-drawer dresser in pebble gray. Although the drawer pulls are basic, the plan is to find some replacement drawer pulls to add an element of charm that this piece deserves.

DIY Artwork

I do have something a little creative in mind up my sleeve for creating a wall of art. Please stay tuned to see how it all evolves.

I want to thank Linda Weinstein, the creator of the One Room Challenge, once again for creating this motivational design event.
