Interior Designer Notes on This North Andover Family Room

Our client, Don Leduc, contacted Debbe Daley Designs on the Sunday before Christmas 2017. He was inquiring about our services and providing details on a new family room addition they were building on their existing home in North Andover, Massachusetts.  He didn't tell his wife he was contacting my firm as it was her surprise Christmas present.  The couple and their son shared a small living room area: the TV room.  Julie Leduc has five sisters and could not entertain them all and their families during holidays because of the lack of space.  I initially met with Don and Julie to discuss their new addition and review plans.  There was one stumbling block; however,  because it was January, I had met with the couple the entry into the new space was boarded up between the kitchen and the new addition.  I could not see the space until the boards were removed and construction on the interior began in the spring.

The only thing Don requested in the new space was a place for a bar area where he could go and relax with two chairs and a cocktail.  The family room design includes an archway passthrough that allowed for a bar and a bit of space for Don. This space was also designed to incorporate a small powder room bath that both spaces would share.  The bar area was perfect as we integrated Julie's dining buffet piece–which was a must–into space. It was the only piece repurposed for this new addition.

Bright corals and turquoise accents were pulled from the area rug, which played nicely with the off-white sofas.  Everything in the new space was custom, from window treatments, sofas, pillows, and Don's bar seating with two brown suede leather chairs embellished with sophisticated nail heads.
